Temporary Activity Visa

  • This visa allows you to come to Australia for the purpose of working on a short-term, temporary basis in specific areas or participating in activities
  • Specific areas or participating activities includes Special Program, Religious work, Research Activities, Invited for other social and cultural activity (Invited Participant), Sporting Activities, Entertainment Activities, Staff Exchange, Superyacht Crew, Australian Government Endorsed Events (Includes COVID 19 Pandemic Event).
  • You can stay between 3 months to 4 years depending on the activities or areas of the application.

Eligibility

  • You have the skills to undertake the activity to be carried out in Australia
  • You must be supported or sponsored
  • You must have access to sufficient funds to cover the cost of your stay in Australia.
  • You must meet the genuine temporary stay requirement (GTE).
  • You must not hold a permanent visa, or a temporary visa specified by the Minister.
  • You must have adequate arrangements for health insurance.
  • You must satisfy certain Public Interest criteria and Special Return criteria.
  • You must meet health and character requirements.
  • You must satisfy specific criteria relating to the activity you are applying under including English language requirements, Sponsors and Supporters etc.

Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408) – Australian Government Endorsement Event (COVID-19 Pandemic Events)

The Government established the Pandemic Event Stream of the 408 Visa to provide flexible temporary arrangements for visa holders in Australia, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is no fee if you are applying for the COVID-19 Pandemic event visa.

You can only apply for this visa for two reasons:

  1. To work in Critical Sector
  2. To extend your stay because you cannot depart Australia due to travel restrictions

Visa duration

  • If you are working in critical sector –up to 12 months
  • if your departure from Australia is currently delayed by COVID-19 travel restrictions- up to 3 months
  • If you currently hold a COVID-19 Pandemic event visa that is about to expire you can apply for a new COVID-19 Pandemic event visa to remain in Australia if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements.

Common Eligibility

  • Must be in Australia
  • You must hold a substantive visa that expires in 90 days or less, or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago. (Note: Substantive visas do not include Bridging Visas.)
  • Must satisfy the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement
  • You may need to provide the evidence of fund to support you and your accompanying family member while you are in Australia
  • Must meet health and character requirements
  • Have adequate health insurance

Eligibility for Critical Sector worker

  • You must be working in critical sector ( Agriculture, Food Processing, Health Care, Aged Care, Disability Care, Child Care, or Tourism and hospitality)
  • you must provide evidence of your ongoing employment or offer of employment which :
  • confirms the dates of your employment
  • confirms which critical sector you are working in
  • provides evidence that an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident cannot fill the position
  • Evidence could include payslips, a contract and/or a letter from your employer

Eligibility to extend your stay because you cannot depart Australia due to travel restrictions 

  • Evidence that you can’t fly due to covid-19 restrictions
