Student Visa (Subclass 500) is a temporary visa that allows international students to come and study in Australia for up to 5 years, depending on the type and length of their studies
Types of courses you can study on the Student Visa
- English Courses – General English courses or English test preparation (ELICOS, IELTS, PTE, OET etc)
- Vocational Courses – Certificate I – IV, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, and Vocational Graduate Certificates and Diplomas
- University Courses – Undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications including Bachelor’s Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters and PhD
- Primary & Secondary School Course
With this visa you can
- Study & work in Australia: Whilst studying you can work 40hrs fortnightly during term time and unlimited hours during college’s breaks & holidays.
- Bring your family member: You can include a family member in your application or they can apply to join you later as a subsequent applicant.
- Stay in Australia: This is a Temporary visa and allows you to stay in Australia temporarily till the expiry of your visa.
- Travelling on your visa: You are able to enter and leave Australia as many times as you like throughout the duration of your visa period
- Apply Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), if eligible: The visa allows eligible students to live and work in Australia temporarily after completion of studies for up to 4 years
Student visa requirements
- Be a certain Age: you must be aged 6 or older. If you are applying for a student visa and you are under 18 years of age, you must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while you are in Australia.
- Proof of Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE): You must provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter with your visa application for each course you intend to study.
- English requirements: unless exempt, Minimum score required: IELTS or other equivalent test score =5.5. Must have taken this test in the 2 years before you apply student visa
- Financial Capacity: You must be able to demonstrate that you have access to sufficient funds to cover the first-year tuition fees, travel expenses and living cost for you any accompanying family while in Australia.
- Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE): You need to prove that you are a “Genuine Temporary Entrant “ , which means you need to provide a statement stating that you intend to stay in Australia temporarily and will return home after studying with supporting documents to support you claim
- Adequate health insurance : you and anyone accompanying family member on your visa must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) by an approved Australian health insurance provider for the duration of stay in Australia
- Meet Australian health and character requirements.
